Allright. Its officially THE final few days of the much
anticipated T20 cricket season. We see memes, songs and everything related to
cricket flying in every direction. Today Semi final day number one with Sri
Lanka vs Pakistan and tomorrow semi final number two with Australia vs West
Indies. While I write this, im hoping from every fiber of my being that we win
today. Considering we win today, and WI win tomorrow, and we beat WI on Sunday…well,
you get my drift.. =D ita all ‘mal hathai’ from then on.
Im NOT an ardent cricket fan. Hate to admit. Meaning I would
not know Mahela Sangakkara from Lasith Malinga (that’s a lie and an exaggeration
but im trying to make a point =P) better said, I wouldn’t know as much about
cricket as most of the locals know. Those
who live and breathe it I mean. That being said, I am, without a doubt, a die hard ‘cricket match participant’. Watching
a cricket match at the stadium or at a giant screen where the action is packed
with papare, dance, food and most importantly, those who bring it all together,
our loyal cricket fans.
Sri Lankan Cricket will never be Sri Lankan Cricket without its
passionate fans. Rain or sunshine fans
pour out from all four corners of the country to show their support by cheering
the lions to victory. To make my point
clear, let us take a look at the ticket outlet today. They say 5000 tickets are
available at the last minute. And the queue is the length of 6 buses in a line.
The tickets also end up being black marketed like its no bodies business. 50
tickets will be 1500 today and so forth.
What is admired is the fact that no matter what we end up
doing, winning or losing, our zealous cricket fans are ‘good sports’ in the
very meaning of the word. And when I say
good sports, I mean they don’t take the meaning of the saying “burn the house
down” literally. =) we do get a bit frustrated that we always end up playing
for the semi finals but never the final or the final but never the cup. But only
a wee bit like 1.2%. the rest is all for the next time. =D
see you there!
That is the spirit! Go Lanka :D
